http://8.mediacorptv.sg/articledetail.aspx?iid=EDC080522-0000011&kw=snackbarI was very touched by the programme last night. At a lot of times, I almost cried but, due to the fact that my parents are around, I held them all back. (Still wanna put on that force front!!!)
Anyway, the most touching part for me was the story of a very noble mother. During the earthquake, she used her own body to protect her 3-4 month old baby from the rubbles. In her undamaged handphone, she also managed to key in a saved message for her baby. She said that she loves her baby and encourages her baby to continue living healthily, although mother may be with the child no more.
I was very glad and happy, nonetheless, because my mum and dad had no objection towards donating to the Szechuan ppl. They even volunteered to donate $12 instead of just one call at $6. That was what I wanted to do during the programming of the whole charity show, since there seem to be no movement on my parents side to make at least a call initially. LOVE MY PARENTS! Thinking back, regret a lot for donating only $2 in college to the Mercy Relief fund for the Szechuan ppl. I should've donated more.
The charity show was very very successful, I thought, and the pictures showed, the ppl invited to the show to make appeals are very effective as well. Examples include the S'pore Civil Defence Team that was sent to Szechuan and a few reporters working frontline at Szechuan. Watched the news after the show and heard that there's another earthquake near Szechuan area and killed a person, injuring 400+ ppl. *sad*
Hope the money collected in S'pore will be of very good use to the survivors at Szechuan and for the rebuilding work.
Oh ya... A question brought up by my mum made me wonder very long. She asked: Why are there administration and GST charges for charity to the Szechuan ppl? Isn't it a charity show and that all the funds collected should be FULLY donated over to Szechuan and not instilling extra charges like this, right? Or is it that there are no sponsors for charitable calls like this? hmm.... wonder....why???
To end, this incident remind all of us again and again to value what we have around us. DO NOT HAVE REGRETS!
